CycleToMenu is a commodity for AmigaOS 2.0 or later which allows you to use
popup menus with the standard gadtools cycle gadgets. This way, selecting
the desired option is easier and faster.
Use it once and you'll never want to get back!
The program can be run in the usual ways, but it must be run before any
program that creates a cycle gadget, so it's recommended to drop its icon
into the WBStartup drawer. You can modify the icon's STARTPRI ToolType to be
sure that CycleToMenu is run before any other program in the WBStartup
drawer.
The patch can be made inactive using the Exchange program, but for technical
reasons it cannot be removed. You can also switch it's active/inactive state
by running CycleToMenu again.
The popup menus will look exactly the same as the standard menus of the
window where the gadget lies. The only difference is that the gadget font is
used instead of the screen font. The new "black on white" look of OS 3.0 is
correctly reproduced.
Clicking on the arrow image on the left of the gadget will make it behave in
the usual way.
This feature can also be useful in low-memory situations or when the popup
menu is too long to fit entirely in the screen.
Compatibility
-------------
CycleToMenu works with every program that uses the standard gadtools cycle
gadget, but it doesn't work with those programs that simulate a cycle gadget
(i.e. almost only those programs that work also with OS 1.3).
Some BADLY written programs don't use the IntuiMessage->Code field but they
simply assume that every time the gadget is clicked it makes a step forward.
This is ABSOLUTELY WRONG! These programs don't even know that if the SHIFT
key is down the gadget makes a step backward!
Luckily, I have seen only two of such programs: GadToolsBox 1.4, ReOrg 2.33.
As mentioned above, you can avoid this problem clicking on the arrow image
of the gadget.
